I Knew Things Were Changing...

Writer's picture: Cathy BumgardnerCathy Bumgardner

When my sisters and I were little, I remember us all sitting around our round kitchen table (that my mother bought at an auction), all eating together. The Corelle dishes were always present with a yellow or blue design. We had an odd bowl out, though. It was the green Crazy Daisy Spring Blossom pattern as shown below. Being a family of 5, we most likely used this 10" size bowl for many stews, pasta, casserole, and of course, for the "leftover infamous weekly" dinners.

I think I was just starting or into a year of Junior High School when the Crazy Daisy green Corelle bowl never made another visit in our home. Things were changing and the new bowl was a lot heavier, at least for me being a scrawny 7th grader. Then soon after other dishes were on our kitchen table at dinner time. I cannot recall the pattern of those dishes anymore, but they were ceramic and heavy. My two older sisters got into trouble breaking a dish here and there as they were not as forgiving as the Corelle dishes.

I currently have a ton of the Gold Butterfly pattern Corelle set and may be selling a few pieces as I'm the oldest person in the kitchen making similar dishes as my mom. Definitely the 'leftover infamous weekly appearance' meal which fills up a large 10" Butterfly bowl nicely, shows up now and again. Friends and family know I love the pattern and I have received numerous pieces over the years. I still cook a lot, but my husband and I don't see that old friend as much.

Here I come full circle. At an estate sale I saw on a large, full table a bunch of dishes, place settings and.... my favorite 'passing around' bowl with that long lost green band of flowers. I bought it on the first day of the estate sale (totally going against my cardinal rule!) I love it, and I've used it for the memories. But I know there will be another home where this Crazy Daisey Spring Blossom Corelle pattern will feel right at home, for a long, long time!

Best Regards,

Katie
