You most likely came to this page because you enjoy vintage era type products.
My favorite vintage items I own are in my kitchen. I have a vintage set of bowls, colander, and a favorite spoon. In fact, it was my grandmother's spoon. I was fortunate enough to have it passed down to me!
Being the youngest in my family, I was curious as to why my older sisters did the things the way they did. Often the answer was, 'Mom does it that way'. So, when my mom could make a can of Tuna feed a family of five with sandwiches, I tried to do the same thing. I added celery, mayonnaise, and a few spice that were on the counter for me to the tuna I had in a bowl. I stirred everything together very carefully with Grandma's spoon. That spoon was able to scrape the bowl with ease, making the Tuna salad look like it was from a deli!
When I came to the last two pieces of bread, there was no more Tuna salad left in the bowl. I casually asked my mom where the Tuna was in the cupboard. That was not a smart question to ask! In reality, I think my mom could have fed an army with two cans of Tuna, but I could only feed four people with one can. I still remember that day, and I joke about it with my sisters quite often.
But I got to use the coveted spoon that was my grandmas! Wow, I was in awe. I never had a spoon that scraped the sides of the bowl so good. I remember using that spoon so many times in the 60's and 70's to make a lot of delicious and delightful goodies. Mixing cake batter, mixing in seasonings into a pot of gravy, and getting every bit of cookie dough out of the bowl, leaving no batter behind.
When I was old enough to leave the nest, I went shopping for a spoon like my grandma's. But no one had a spoon with a slanted topside. I relayed the disappointment over the phone that I looked and looked for one like Grandma's. And then I heard a good laugh from my mom. She said I would never find a new spoon like hers. For the years of stirring, and stirring, and more stirring, the round top of the spoon had worn down and was now flat against the pot or pan on one side.
I personally believe it is how and why the first spatulas were invented!

I now proudly own my grandmother's spoon. And I do not intend to stop using it anytime soon. I have to admit, I do love spatulas a lot. I asked my husband once, what did we do before spatulas? And he brought out my grandma's spoon I love, and he just looked at me and said, "people made slanted spoons."
Again, timeless! And, thank you for reading this blog!
